On May 20, 2012, with a makeshift projector, we viewed the annular solar eclipse in Tucson, Arizona where it appeared as a partial eclipse.
Also during the eclipse, subtle crescent shapes appeared in leafy shadows on the ground and walls.
The tiny sun crescents were a little easier to see on smooth white posterboard.

oh wow, these are so unique images Dianne, the shadows are so impressive, wish I had seen it too but I stayed away from it because of my sensitivity to light. But I am glad I am able to see it through your pictures and the shadows are bonus.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all these images, especially the ones with leafy crescent-shaped shadows! I remember that phenomena, when I last so a solar eclipse on the East Coast. And the quiet, it seemed the birds stopped singing, wondering what was going on.
ReplyDeleteSorry, it should have been "phenomenon" -
ReplyDeletecheers,
Merisi
Wonderful photos...wasn't it fun to be living where we could witness the event?
ReplyDeleteFabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love your set-up. You really thought about it.
I have never seen all the tiny sun crescents, that is so wonderful.
cheers, parsnip
That is amazing, Diane! What a neat idea. I never even thought of it.
ReplyDeleteI love all the tiny crescents! Shame I didn't bring my other camera to take photos of the reflections.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it was dark here before the eclipse began. Wonderful, playful images! Thanks you for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteAn eclipse is such a wonderful show - and all for free. Last summer we had a lunar eclipse - the first for my son - and he loved it.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful photos of the eclipse, and the shadows turned out perfectly pretty!
ReplyDeleteI remember one year, while still working, finding such shades right outside my back door at work. The trees cast the most unusual shadows. I looked for such shadows this time around but wasn't in the right place. No trees nearby and just tiny shrubs. So glad to see yours.
ReplyDeleteSin duda un gran espectáculo, felicidades por acudir a él.
ReplyDeleteHI Diane, You are so lucky to have seen the eclipse. We couldn't see it here... SO--I have enjoyed seeing pictures, like yours. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
These are amazing...I didn't get a chance to see the eclipse....maybe next time..will I live that long???? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see it, but completely forgot ! Glad to see that you got the chance to view the eclipse -- so cool !

How very creative! I really like the crescents you captured through the trees. It almost makes them look like clouds, in an abstract sort of way.
ReplyDeleteI haven't witnessed an eclipse in years, probably when we last lived in AZ. I remember, when I was a child, my dad made some sort of box contraption for us to use to safely observe the eclipse.
Great captures.
ReplyDeleteWe did not have the chance to watch the eclipse here.

ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! I didn't even get to see it because I've been such a slug lately, I didn't even know it was happening! Thanks so much for sharing all these wonderful "features" of the eclipse.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to view it!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

ReplyDeleteTerrific captures of the eclipse, Diane! It didn't put in an appearance in Seattle and it was raining anyway! Surprise, surprise! Love your shadow shots for the day! They are beautiful! Hope you're having a great Memorial Day weekend!

Hello! Very interesting post!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea Diane! Nice work. That was a tricky day for me as well....figuring out what goes where etc etc. At the end I was happy with the results and photos....but also super sensitive to not buring out my photo lens.....love your shots!
ReplyDeleteGreat images of the eclipse. Smart to figure out a way to project it onto posterboard.
