This year we're growing herbs in containers on the patio

and we fenced in the tomatoes and covered them with shade cloth
The pomegranate and citrus trees are setting fruit for the first time since the big freeze of February 2011.
Hummingbirds share their nectar feeders with verdins and woodpeckers.
The kingsnake made a brief appearance before retiring to its home in the wall.

Your garden is so much farther along than mine. When did you start your tomatoes and herbs... mine are just starting to really grow.
ReplyDeleteMy citrus trees are still barley alive but they have leaves this year. I hope fruit next year.
I want to plant a pomegranate tree.

Thank you so much! I always wondered what the name of those pale blue flowers Was. Now I know. Lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see all of those things around my house except for the snake. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou reminded me when I planted some veggies in the backyard, mine wasn't successful ! I collected a lot of quilt from my husband's grandmother and I love every single one of them !

Diane, it's really good to know that it's not me and my place. Everything in this post is dead on....fruit is setting for the first time on our citrus trees. The hummingbird feeders are driving me crazy!!! Verdins, House Finches, Gila Woodpeckers are really drinking up! The hummers are around but I've had to move the feeders because they are spilling the juice all over the sidewalk! The Verdins are fine, but when that Woodpecker swings below....look out!!! And a first! A Kingsnake came out of nowhere on our property in midtown!!! I have never seen this guy since I started putting our gardens together here.....I think snakes are cool but a little unnerving when you are cleaning up or watering a pot and it slithers, slinks around the pot....3 feet long!!!Heebie jeebies. And lastly, love how you did up your herbs and veggies. Good luck! I've got peaches, loquats, apricots, citrus, and had mulberries...but I ate those up:) No persimmons, apples, guava, grapefruit or figs!:( I'm bummed about the figs and persimmons. Peach trees NEVER disappoint however. Enjoy your Thursday!
ReplyDeleteeverything looks good Diane, so vibrant and full of life, so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteAlways a pleasure to visit your blog!

My daughter and I are trying our hands at a small garden this year. Hope we haven't gotten too late of a start. I'm also growing rosemary and thyme...two of my favorites. And you find time to quilt! You're amazing.

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I am greeting
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of fenced in with shade cloth. It is the only way to protect your plants before the critters have their fill.
ReplyDeletePomegranate tree? How fun and lucky you for having it fresh to eat.
No idle hands at your place! :-) Your quilt is very beautiful, like a piece of art. The tomatoes look like they are doing very well with your TLC. I love the color of the Plumbago. The oatmeal cookies are making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteAlways a delight to see your images.
Your garden is looking good. I'd like to join you and the birds for some oatmeal cookies.
ReplyDeleteSuch glorious colors both outdoors and in your quilt. Your garden is really producing. J
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks like mine, the beds covered to keep out the critters.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt!
Veo una gran satisfacción en todo lo que haces...felicidades.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
