Ruby Tuesday - Birds

These are some of the birds with the color red observed recently in this area. House finches are commonly found in the garden while the other two are more often seen while walking in the desert. These are all male birds. Pyrrhuloxias resemble female cardinals don't they?

Pyrrhuloxia

Cardinal

These are beautiful birds, Diane! The first photo is so artistic looking, and the purple cactus in the second one is amazing!

Pyrrhuloxia - bird with an attitude. I have a few Cardinals around here and am very happy about that.

You may be interested to know that the Cardinal and Pyrrhuloxia belong to the same genus. The Cardinal's Latin name is Cardinalis cardinalis; the Pyrrhuloxia's is Cardinalis sinuatus.

Oh...those are stunning red birds. Great shots. We don't see such colorful birds here in the San Fran suburbs...just a bunch of crows!

These are so cute. I am never lucky to find birds in my neighborhood, let alone in the gardens here.

Hi Diane, Love your bird pictures. That 2nd one is new to me. How pretty!!!!

Bet your Cardinals are happier out there than ours here --in the cold and snow.
Hugs,
Betsy

These birds are so colorful and a joy to see.

You just helped identify a bird I saw at our feeder here in Indiana a few days ago, the house finch.

We have had the good fortune to see Pyrrhuloxia on occasion in our Arizona back yard. It's always nice to see that spot of red. =)

Beautiful birds. Pyrrhuloxia is new to me, he's cute.
I don't understand why we don't have Cardinals in California if you have them in Tucson, not fair!
