Ocotillo Flowers

Here are snapshots of ocotillos taken on various days around the canyon this month:

It looks like this little hummer is waving!

Have a nice week! :)

They are such a favorite of the hummers! Our ocotillo, saguaro and yucca are getting ready to bloom together. Great pictures!

So beautiful - especially the ones with the hummingbirds in them.

Beautiful photos, Diane. I have discovered a shrub in my garden which a botonist identified as a Madagascan ocotillo. We live in Kenya and when this flowers I hope it brings many more sunbirds (which are similar to your hummers) Have a great week. Jo

Wonderful photos of a favorite plant.

My friend has several in her yard and they are all full of green leaves and red blooms so beautiful.

I only have one in my yard and am thinking of planting a few more I think the hummingbirds would love them too.

cheers, parsnip

This is one of the reasons I think it's so fun to be a follower of bloggers around the country. I had no idea what an ocotillo plant was, or looked like, since we don't have those in Michigan (that I'm aware of), and now I do. Thanks for helping to further my plant education, Diane!

Also, I just love seeing the hummingbirds next to the orange color of the plant. It does look like that one bird is waving too! LOL

I like all the pictures.

You know, your pictures are so perfect. I dare to say what damage you could do with your camera in a place like Sedona! Get up there, woman!

I can never resist the ocotillo in bloom but these are especially nice since you caught the hummer as well.

The ocotillo blooms are spectacular when they show and can't blame the little hummers for liking them too.
Seems I'll miss most of spring in the desert, maybe if I ever get to the North Rim. Sigh....

The ocotillo cactus is my favorite of all. Each of your images is spectacular. Love the ones with the hummer - especially the final one.
