Big Birds

One morning I saw three hawks. The first one was perched on a bare tree branch:

Cooper's Hawk

The next hawk was on top of a saguaro cactus:

Here is the same bird from behind:

Red-tailed Hawk

The third hawk (another Cooper's) was on a telephone pole.

Cooper's Hawk

Well, that's all for now.  Have a wonderful day. :)

Magnific!!!

Interesting. I haven't seen for awhile any Big Bird, (seagulls don't count like big, right?) How did you manage to shoot them from behind too? Imagine you have skills like Indian to get invisible ;)

Siga, Seagulls are big to me! The birds I usually see are the size of doves or smaller. These hawks just stayed put even while I took pictures. I didn't see them fly.

Diane, have you seen the 'free-flight' of Harris' Hawks at the Desert Museum?

Janie said...

That's a lot of hawks to see in one morning! Perching atop a cactus looks a little ouchy!
Lovely photos.

Tom, yes about 15 years ago I saw a "free-flight" show at the Desert Museum. I love that place!

Nice shots. We have some open land around here where the hawks hang out, usually on electric poles.

The one on the cactus looks a little prickly! You had a hawk bonanza on that day.

Hi, Diane;
Found you through Janey's blog. Popped over to enjoy some lovely pics from sunny AZ. I'm headed your way next month for a week long trail ride. Can't wait for some summer-like weather!

I do love raptors. I enjoy birds of all kinds but there is something about these areal predators that appeals to me.

Love these. Reminds me of Disney's The Living Desert and the bobcat balanced at the top of a saquaro. Happy memory. I loved that movie as a child and still have the book.

Seeing three hawks is one thing. Capturing great images of all three is quite another, and quite an accomplishment!

Norma Chang said...

Amazing photos. You must be a very patient person. How long did you wait to capture each shot at just the right moment?

Diane AZ said...

Hi Norma, Thank you for your comment. I was lucky that the birds were already there and I didn't have to wait. :)
