Bobcat

On a nature walk last Thursday,

while viewing the pale moon low in the sky,

I noticed something moving on a saguaro...a bobcat!

The cat leaped from one cactus to another,

and then settled into the crook of a saguaro's arm.

Although curious, I didn't hang around to see what the wildcat would do next.

Have a wonderful week!

omigoodness. Shades of Disney's The Living Desert. These are fabulous and ring so many childhood bells. I still have my book from the movie.

Wow Diane.....really really cool find! To have one on a Saguaro cactus jumping is a really unique find! In fact, I don't think I've ever seen them do that before....maybe a little jealous abut your nature walk:) Those shots are awesome...as is the moon. I LOVE bobcats. He wouldn't have eaten you....now if that were a Mountain Lion, I may have had other feelings:) Hope you had a good Monday. Really really cool post!

So Fabulous !
What wonderful photos. I have never seen a bobcat jump from cactus to cactus.
How can they do that and not get stuck with thorns.
I have a bobcat that moseys through my yard every once and awhile but I never have my camera.
How funny we both posted about saguaros today only mine has flowers and no Bobcats.

cheers, parsnip

Bobcat! And you didn't have to go to the ADSM to see it.

I'm quite jealous. The best I can come up with is seeing a coyote cross in front of my car late one evening here in Greensboro. Yep, they have come this far east.

This was absolutely devine! Thank you for sharing your gift! And thank you bob cat for your tenacious pounce and playing to the camera!

Fantastic capture, and wise decision to go away!

I am just curious if those thorns would hurt the bobcat at all..

Great photos. I have never gotten up close and personal with one...don't know if I want to. I'm still learning about what to avoid out here in the desert.

They are beautiful animals!

Hi There, I'm trying to catch up after being gone for a week.

Great pictures of the bobcat... Glad though that you didn't stay around long enough to see what he would do!!!!!!! ha

Have a great week.

WOW! Such an awesome experience and your photos are excellent. Whenever I see wildlife I get so excited my images are a blur. Seems impossible for the bobcat to jump and lay on the saguaro spines.

You really had a great experience with this one! I just can't imagine those thorns not hurting, yet the bobcat doesn't seem bothered at all.
Magnificent!

Fantastic, Diane! I also was reminded of a Disney's The Living Desert... funny how things stick in your mind all these years later! I just can't figure out why a Bobcat would want to climb a saguaro in the first place!?

I'm still in love with these pics. I showed them to my class today and the kids were amazed. They had no idea that bobcats can jump up on Saguaros. Amazing captures that still lingered until the day after:)

How awesome that is. I have only seen one bobcat in the wild, but it was way too brief of a sighting because he darted quickly into the dense Florida brush and then was gone. It's nice that the openness of the desert allows such a better view than those of us in the "green country" usually get.
