Badgers

This morning I saw three young American badgers.  I did the best I could taking pictures from the road, not wanting to move any closer and possibly scare them, and not knowing if their mother was nearby.

The badgers were under the shaggy mesquite tree on the left:

Two badgers were tumbling around playing with each other and one was digging, maybe foraging for small animals such as ground squirrels.

What a morning!  In addition to the badgers I also saw javelinas, deer, a jack rabbit and a large snake all before 7:00 am.

Oh You are so lucky !
Son loves Badgers and we are always on the lookout for them but have never seen one.
Is this Sabino Canyon ? I know you can't drive there. I know the mountains in the background.

Can't wait to show this to my son.

cheers, parsnip

The large snake would have finished me for the day. Forget what I ever said about wanting to walk with you. :-)

The only thing I know about badgers is that we (Ohio State) play against them in the Big Ten conference (Wisconsin, that is).

My wildlife this weekend consisted of a white-tail deer and a wild turkey up on the Blue Ridge Parkway - no badgers American or Wisconsin.

I'm jealous.

You saw javelinas? Are they aggressive like their wild boar cousins? in Texas?

You really lucked out --getting to see the badger... I think going out EARLY in the morning helps. They say if you want to see the wildlife in Cades Cove in the Smokies, you need to go early in the morning or late in the evening --right before dark... You obviously did GREAT... Loved the pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Nice shots. Badgers are shy of humans and try to hide!

Amazing Diane!!! I've heard they live in the desert and yet...never have I seen them. You have the best eyes spotting these critters!!! Is this around the Sabino Canyon area? Very very cool pictures:)

You deserve these kinds of "spottings"...you're obviously out there early and working at things. Your pictures are great.

I had no idea there were badgers in the Sonoran Desert! Wonderful captures! You were wise to keep your distance. They can be extremely mean.
