I wanted to plant some by the house but the "Kissing Bug" likes to hide in them and I can't be bitten by one. So they are in the yard but not near the house. Bummer.
so love the contrast in your pictures, we have lots of prickly pear in the wild here too, but maybe, i did not take a closer look at those fruits, I just noticed even the fruits have thorn like the leaves through your pictures, very interesting!
I always liked the colors of prickly pears and the view of them probably because we can;t take them in the hand without protection. They seem so perfect to fit in a hand. Nice series.
I can remember first eating Prickly Pear preserves when I visited my relatives living in AZ in the early 70s. I also remember a Dune buggy ride in the high desert some miles outside of Phoenix and the smells and beauty of the desert in the evening.

Gorgeous...isn't the contrast of the pads with those deep burgundy fruits just fabulous?
In the last shot they look a bit like strange strawberries!

Amazing photos do you use the fruit for anything I am sure I have heard of recipes for using them....many moons ago though.
They look beautiful. Had never seen fruits on cactus before and somehow had taken it for granted that cactus don't have fruits.

Great pictures, I don't know about you but I seem to have a lot less prickly pear fruits on my plants this year than last.
