Reflections at the watering hole

"Without the rigidity of concepts, the world becomes transparent and illuminated, as though lit from within. With this understanding, the interconnectedness of all that lives becomes very clear. We see that nothing is stagnant and nothing is fully separate, that who we are, what we are, is intimately woven into the nature of life itself. Out of this sense of connection, love and compassion arise."

  2. Thanks for the lovely quotation! Is the watering hole a puddle or a spring?

  3. Hi Tom, It is a man-made watering hole lined with cement. I think water is added regularly by drip irrigation.

  10. Matty, I wasn't that close, I used the 20x zoom on my point-and-shoot camera and then cropped the image in photoshop.

  18. Hi Diane,

Water is really a symbolic of life. Can you imagine finding a pool of water in the middle of a desert when we are thirsty? I am sure we will be glad to find it.

The last picture of the three birds? It reminds me of the story "The ugly duckling" the red bird is different from his friends. Hehehe

    Have a nice day.

  19. Ours and the fate of all things are woven together so that there is no seperation. When we destroy the Earth our mother, we destroy ourselves in the process...

  21. Love this post. At the Visitor Center at Dripping Springs, just outside of Las Cruces, there is a little trickling fountain in the natural garden area. Everyone is attracted to it, as we desert dwellers always gravitate toward any water. Then you look down at the small sign, which says something like--Just as you were drawn to the sound of water, so are many desert animals. Watch your step [for snakes] on the way out.

    I just love that sign...

  23. What a perfect place for animals to come down to drink at Diane.

There is so much beauty inside of us if only we were not afraid to let it out sometimes.

  24. where did the water come from? I always been led by cow boy movies that there is absolutely no water in the dessert.

  27. I really like how you brought us in closer and closer to the birds at the waterhole. They look like the crossbills I saw at the canyon last summer.
