Hello! Here are snapshots (taken October - November) of a common native plant called turpentine bush and also some of the insects who are attracted to it. The plant gets its name from the odor of its crushed leaves.

Have a wonderful week. :)
I like the bug...beautiful images
ReplyDeleteFunny how these bugs are attracted to a smell most humans would find offensive. The ponderosa pine produces turp and yet usually smells quite sweet. Excellent shots.
ReplyDeletePretty flowers, lovely photos! I wish I could smell them!
ReplyDeleteAll are great snaps, but I particularly LOVE that last photo ... incredible light and shadow and texture ... wow.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, Lots of insects like that turpentine bush.... Great group of photos.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful holiday season.
Hugs,
Betsy
How neat! What a variety of finds! Wonderful pictures Diane. I miss so much all of this. Thks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHow strange, a plant that smells like turpentine. That mesquite beetle is quite intriguing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots with amazing detail. The bugs don't seem to mind the plant's odor. Maybe they find it attractive.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Diane. I think we may have this same turpentine bush in our CA desert, though not positive. I really like the last photo of the light at sunset.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are stunning. I love all the new bugs out and about....I've been noticing strange new flies that I've never seen before. Very interesting:)
ReplyDeleteHey this post is buggy! :-) Lovely photos, as usual.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures of those bugs, and fauna, and the last shot of the sunset on the fauna, so lovely!
ReplyDeleteMiło patrzeć na owady, które u nas już nie fruwają, chodzą i skaczą. Do wiosny musimy poczekać. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to look at insects that are no longer with us fly, walk and jump. We have to wait until spring. Yours.
beautiful, I never knew of its name before, I see also alot of them here in socal.
ReplyDeleteThey are all wonderful shots but in particular that of the Flower Fly and Lakin Grasshopper! Beautiful light on your last two images, as well.
