Birds on Saguaros

In the Sonoran Desert, when the weather is too hot to enjoy a long nature walk, abundant wildlife can still be observed on just about any cactus with flowers and/or fruit.  These pictures are all from June.

    Beautiful, all of them! So is this where they get moisture when it's really hot and water gets scarce?

    Wonderful photos. I really like the lesser goldfinch hanging on the open fruit.

    I don't have a Saguaro in my yard, I wish I did, but the birds and squirrels are chopping down on the fruit from the prickly pear.

    All those birds looking so delicate, but able apparently not to get pricked by the thorns! The gils woodpecker ones are my favorite. The blooming cacti are lovely.

    I'm amazed at the symbiosis between birds and saguaros. I never would have thought birds would perch so often on the cactus. Great photos!

    Aren't the Saguaros wonderful, they play host to so many species.
    I can't think of a better way of beating the heat and yet still enjoying the wildlife :)

    Gorgeous captures on this post and the "Summer Sightings" post. I love that you were able to capture a photo of the ground squirrels; that they didn't scamper off. The cactus wren image is lovely!
