Nature Walks

A walk around the school late December:

hummingbird, vermillion flycatchers,
Gila woodpecker, house finch, starling,
 mockingbird, cactus wren

A walk to the creek late December:

golden leaves on cottonwood trees, Cooper's hawk and nest,
 cardinal, desert mistletoe, blooming brittlebush

  8. Love the Cedar Waxwing, another bird I never see. How high up is that hawk nest? I saw a huge nest that looks similar to that at one of the parks I frequent but it was really only about 7 feet off the ground and close to a sidewalk and I didn't think a hawk would have a nest so low.

  18. Oh my goodness, I just realised it is a Cedar Waxwing, not a Phainopepla! Clearly I need new glasses :) Lovely photo anyway!
