  1. I have noticed the Saguaros are starting to bloom.
The few purple prickly pears that I have all of a sudden turned deep purple.
Maybe I need to give them so water ?
Time for shoes... rattlers are out.

    cheers, patsnip

  2. You still have a lot of color in your desert. I think the S CA desert is past it's prime, except perhaps at the higher elevations.

  3. Nice catch, that snake was. And what WAS that insect? It looks like it is a cross between an ant and a beetle.

  4. Love the rattlesnake shot! I'm always hoping to see one... just not near my foot! Also that iron cross beetle is amazing. I have photographed the regular black and red blister beetle, never saw the one you posted before. It's a beauty.

  5. Dear Diane,
I accidently found your blog with your wonderful Arizona pictures and suddendly a lot of wonderful memories came into my mind again. Because it's soon 22 years ago when I travelled with my husband from Phoenix to Vegas to get married over there. My husband is American and I am German, so this was the best solution.
I remember the desert, the Botanical Garden of Phoenix, the Grand Canon, even the roadrunners... Unfortunately without Digital Camera.
Thanks for sharing so many nice pictures
    Best regards
    Sigrid

  6. Hi there! This is my first time here. I love the desert, so your post automatically appeals to me. Very nice photos! I'm familiar with the iron cross blister beetle, but never have seen one in person. They are amazing.
After poking around a bit here, I'm signing on...

  9. The first photo of the yellow flowers reminds me of a very similar plant we have here that grows on cliff-sides. I don't know the name though I'm afraid.

  10. The flowers on the cactus and sharp detail of the bug are my favorite. Oh, and the great capture of the rattler!
