A cute baby Verdin! |
This flowering plant, called Red Bird of Paradise or Mexican Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia pulcherrima), is commonly used in desert landscaping because it is drought tolerant and attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. I think the red and orange flowers and ferny foliage look especially nice against blue sky. Have a wonderful week!

I am so envious of your ability to take such wonderful close-ups of birds.
Love the photo of what is becoming one of my most favorite birds the Verdin.

Gorgeous, Diane. I love seeing the flowers of summer against the blue skies also... AND--the butterflies and critters love those flowers also.

We just returned from the mountains, they were bursting with blooms. Now I'll try to identify them all, not easy as many look alike.

Great shots and the birds, what a beauty... and it feeds butterflies too? Such a wonder of nature in a dry dessert.
I actually thought seeing the flower at first that this was a fire-tree's flower though i am not sure if fire trees can grow in deserts...
