These pictures are from last month when I went exploring and came upon an old horse trail. I looked over the railing on top of the embankment and couldn’t believe how non-desert-like the area seemed with the water and green grass. Just when I started taking some reflection photos, I had an eerie feeling that I was not alone.
Sure enough, there were two coyotes watching me. I backed away because I’m afraid of them.
Just the day before I had seen a coyote tearing into a javelina (wild boar-like animal). I’m so glad to have 20x zoom on my camera to snap pictures from a safe distance.

They did look very interested in you! Coyotes come through my yard and are on the trails and in the forest behind my house, but they are generally skittish and would run. Now, foxes are another story! It looks as though you have an oasis there in the desert!
ReplyDeleteOopss...
ReplyDeletethose coyotes are looking not friendly, was you not scared ??
Very fantastic nature shots ...
Beautiful post :-)
Have a nice weekend
:)
It looks like a wonderful place to explore. I like the shots!
ReplyDeleteI think the Coyote was there because of the water.
ReplyDeleteGosh, coyotes? Are they very dangerous? They look like tame dogs but I am sure they are not. The reflections were nice too :)
ReplyDeleteLovely tones in those reflections! And those coyotes would make me feel a little uneasy too! But I'd have to get a photo just as you did on zoom!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflections, Diane, and I love the different colors in the water too! I'm glad you're safe from the coyotes!
ReplyDeleteLovely reflections. Those coyotes have a hungry look in their eyes.
ReplyDeleteSunny :)
Beautiful reflections, Diane! Neat sighting of the coyotes.
ReplyDeleteThe colors in the water are very pretty and make for beautiful reflections.
ReplyDeleteThose coyotes are so very beautiful, but I think I would have backed away as well. I've only seen them up close a few times, and they were running.
Oh, how scary...or at least it would be to me!!! Glad you stayed far enough away, for sure!!! They are kinda cute and I probably would have started calling them "Here puppy, puppy..."
ReplyDeleteMistake.
Beautiful photographs again Dianne.

Hello Dianne, that palm tree amazes me. The trees around the plant all dried but not the palm. Nice pics of the coyote and they look like they were looking at you even in a distance. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place, hardly looks desert like. But those coyotes do look like they live in the desert. Great shots with that Big Zoom.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great shots.. and coyotes up close! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflection pictures, Diane. As I've said many times, you do live in a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
I wonder at your remar of beng afraid of them Diane? Your Coyote is similar in size and is cousin of our jackal but they have an inborn instinct to be afraid of man and run away if you get near. Have these lost that instinct?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflections! Great captures as always Diane.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Joan, these suburban coyotes seemed bolder than the ones in the wild. And, I couldn't see if perhaps there were more of them hiding behind bushes.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture - with your lens!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots...and as much as I like coyotes, I'd stay well away too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fine contribution to the Weekend Reflections meme, Diane!
ReplyDeleteLove all your shadows in the desert, and the coyotes are special bonus, though could be dangerous!
ReplyDeleteDiane you've just made me jealous again. I took a walk in Paris today but I saw no coyotes...
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you saw those coyotes. I would have not been so brave to stand around. I am just afraid of wild animals in general.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous reflections and wonderful composition in all of these photos.
ReplyDeleteInteresting and nice captures. The reflections on dark water look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been afraid of coyotes in the past, now that you tell of seeing them tear into a javalina, I may think twice!.
ReplyDeleteYour sky shots are gorgeous and the kestrel, I have tried often but never gotten close enough for a good shot. Great post!
oh, love desert oasis, so full of life, and your pictures describe it well. i am afraid of coyotes too.
ReplyDeleteLovely reflection shots Diane. Desert oasis always fascinates me like what we have here in Al Ain City.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Al Ain Zoo last week and it was my first time to see a coyote for real but it was in huge cage.
Best not to trust them! I have seen a coyote act just like a domestic dog and get someones dog to follow it, and then lead it right into more that were waiting off at a distance... A little corn pollen in their direction will give them a blessing and they will leave you alone.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, but it would have been scary! Glad all is well.
ReplyDeletegood thing you backed away...coyotes are wild
