September Skies

On Monday the sky was cloudy but the rising Harvest moon did make a brief appearance.

A change of lighting with Photoshop made this image look eerie.

This "break" in the clouds was happening next to the sunset, crepuscular rays maybe?

I took my camera with me to the market the next morning in case there was a good moonset photo op, which there wasn't, but I ended up taking a sunrise picture.

Wednesday night from my street I was able to glimpse the glowing nearly full moon rising from behind a hill. Those little stick-like things are saguaro cacti.

Summer Skies

So far, July has been an enjoyable month for skywatching.

On the morning of the supermoon, there were just a few thin clouds where the moon was setting...

and plenty of clouds in the opposite direction where the sun was rising.

My son called last evening to tell me that the moon was glowing red:

Also this morning, even with a cloudy sky I could see the planet Jupiter and the Orion constellation to the east just before sunrise.

I'm pretty sure the two red colored dots are the stars Betelgeuse (Orion's shoulder) and Aldebaran (the fiery eye of Taurus the bull).

And finally, here's an interesting cloud from last Friday:

It looks like the gray color was brushed onto the white cloud with a huge paint brush.

Skywatch

Here are some sky pictures from a walk early Sunday morning to watch the full moon set.

On the way back I enjoyed the colors of the mountains and sky,

and a quiet sunrise.
