A field guide for moths would help for identifying these little winged creatures, but I don't have one yet. I'm pretty sure the last moth pictured above is a staghorn cholla moth. The staghorn cholla is a common cactus around here. I can't recall ever seeing a moth on a cactus, probably because most moths are nocturnal.
Last year I saw a tiny emerald moth and a sulphur butterfly on a cottonwood leaf by the creek:
And two years ago, I saw this colorful moth on the wall, possibly a Nevada tiger moth:
That's about it, have a great week!

That's a very impressive collection!
Wow! A lot of different moths in this wonderful series. You definitively need a guide. There were exhibits in the past at the DBG in Phoenix with butterflies and moths but not as many moths as here today on your blog!
And so beautifully captured with this texture as background.
I actually like the stucco backgrounds. The texture gives the moths something to cling to and provides a nice contrast for the delicacy of the moths. I especially like the rich green colored one.
I too like the stucco background. that is were you find them.
I love the green ones, beautiful.
cheers, parsnip
You've seen more moths than I've ever imagined! Somehow, we sometimes get them inside. Unfortunately, I often don't find them until I see them dead on the floor.
somehow, the stucco background adds more creativity to your shots, very creative.
What an amazing collection of moths of varied colors & textures !
Sporo nocnych motyli "złapałaś" aparatem. Niektóre są tak kolorowe, że można by pomyśleć, że to dzienne motyle. Pozdrawiam.
A lot of night butterflies "caught" the camera. Some are so colorful that you might think it's time butterflies. Yours.
So many different moths! I love the green ones best. Do you find you have more moths than butterflies where you live?
Hi Karen, good question! I think I see more butterflies but they're harder to picture because they keep moving. :)
I've never seen such colourful moths. All the ones here seem to be brown.
If you find a good moth guide please let me know as I always wonder what all the amazing moths are that gather around our exterior lights too.
